All In for NC Monthly Meeting: What are the Big Issues Facing North Carolina in 2025?

The North Carolina legislature is in the middle of its budget session right now. Governor Stein has proposed a budget with many essential policies, from Western NC relief to increased funding for public education to expanded health care. The Republican-controlled legislature has proposed its own different priorities, which includes more funding for private and religious charter school vouchers and tax cuts that overwhelmingly benefit wealthy residents and corporations.

Meanwhile, the Trump Administration is wreaking havoc on North Carolina’s economy and state budget. They are proposing drastic cuts in environmental protection and health care budgets, threats to veterans’ care and low-income housing assistance, and the rollback of immigrants’ rights and services.

Come and hear four state leaders talk about the current policy landscape in NC, how recent policy changes are playing out, and what the future might hold. Our panelists will be:

Sen. Sydney Batch (D-Wake Co.), the new Senate Minority leader.
Todd Zimmer, Co-director of Down Home NC, one of the state’s leading organizations fighting for public schools, expanded health care, community development and Western NC reconstruction. Down Home is increasingly known as one of the strongest rural organizing groups in America.
Kelly Morales, Co-director of Siembra NC, the state’s leading Latine organizing group and one of the nation’s leading immigrant rights’ advocacy organizations.
Our moderator will be Elizabeth Byrum, Deputy Director of Majority Rising NC. Elizabeth provides policy recommendations to Democratic legislative leaders and coordinates legislative accountability efforts among partner organizations.
